Manitoba Special Olympic Winter Games (opening ceremonies)

I recently was part of a photographic team that cover the 2011 Manitoba Winter Special Olympics.  The opening ceremonies were held at the Delta Winnipeg hotel, and were attended by dignitaries as well as the athletes themselves and their families.  Though the torch was not lit, the athlete who carried the torch into the ballroom to officially start the games couldn’t have cared less, as you’ll see his excitement in the photographs. The opening ceremonies had a great band (Electric Angel) let by a very talented (and cute!) lead singer.  I noticed several of the male athletes paying special attention to her when she was singing…who could blame them?  lol  She was great actually, both in her singing and the way she would go into the crowd and sing and dance with the athletes.
One thing I noticed throughout the evening and the next day of competition, was how happy the athletes were just to be there. It was the same thing when I photographed the Manitoba Summer Special Olympic Games two years ago.  It was a pleasure to watch!

Master Groomer Nominated for Business Awards….

The Manitoba Woman Entrepreneur of the Year Awards  in the categories of Building Business as well as Excellence in Service

Tiff and I first met back in 2005 when both of our companies were involved in supporting a Winnipeg Humane Society fund-raising event. Since that time our companies have been working together for joint promotions, special events and as well I have been the photographer of record for her company Barks n’ Bubbles Pet Spa Inc. (previous name Style n’ Paws).

It’s great to see all her hard work being recognized and rewarded…especially if she wins!  Below is a promotional portrait of Tiffany I did for awards submission, as well as a few misc image of the Barks n’ Bubbles shop itself.

So if you are looking for an excellent pet groomer, or at t wish to stop by and congratulate her and wish her luck with her award nominations, stop by or give her a call

Speaking & Judging & Teaching, Oh My…

Well, it looks like the first half of 2011 will be a busy one for me in regards to me speaking/teaching and otherwise helping fellow photographers improve their craft and produce better work for their clients.  Last weekend the Manitoba chapter of the Professional Photographers of Canada (PPOC) held their “New Members Course”.   I was in charge of teaching the lighting section of the event.  Next up will myself and Fred Elcheshen putting on a 1/2 day program at the joint convention/seminar of the Manitoba and Saskatchewan chapters of PPOC held in Saskatoon in early March.  There we will be teaching the foundation of photography – Lighting, Posing and Composition.  So many new photographers don’t have a clue on what it takes to create a decent photograph, but that doesn’t stop them from misleading their clients and taking their money…leaving a swath of disappointed clients and crying brides in their wake.  (Don’t get me on my soapbox about this!)

After a quick return to Winnipeg, I’ll be off to judge the British Columbia chapter of PPOC ‘s annual image competition later in March.  Then, in June myself and Steve Hiebert will be putting on a seminar once again for the local PPOC-Manitoba Chapter – once again on lighting. SOMEWHERE in all of that I’ll be schedule an exam that I will need to give to for photographers (Canadian, American or International) that wish to take their written requirement for their “Certified Processional Photographer” (CPP) designation from the ” Professional Photographic Certification Commission.   That needs to take place sometime this spring and again this fall, so I gotta schedule them somewhere in there!  LOL

All of these organizations are actually there for the public’s well being.  They are organizations that exist so that the buying public can be assured that the photographer they hire is actually talented, skilled and ethical.  In this day and age of people buying a camera one day and opening their photography business the next (talent, skill, knowledge and ability be dammed – I want some quick cash and screw the public!)  they are more important than ever. As someone who has achieved the title of Master Photographer part of that title is giving back to the industry –  teaching others.  Now, if only the unethical ones would see the light and change their ways…   (I SAID get off the soapbox today Bruce! LOL)

Forget Reindeer, Santa really loves Dogs and Cats!

Ah yes, it was another fun filled season at Barks N’ Bubbles Pet Spa!  As you may or may not know, for the last several years Impact Photographic Design has teamed up with them (plus the big gut Santa himself of course!) to offer Holiday Pet Portraits.  This year the portraits were offer on three different Sundays in December on location at Barks N’ Bubbles.  Not only were we taking photographs there, but the majority of orders were printed and delivered on the spot as well (only larger prints and most greeting cards had to be sent to the lab).  So while at other places that take pet portraits you wait in line for hours just to get a quick 2 or 3 pictures taken, were as with us you’d show up for your appointed time, have a mini session (with variety of different images taken), you’d be shown the been shown the best of the best, you’d place your order and you would LEAVE with your images in  usually no more than about an hour, or to put it another way…. in less time you’d be standing in line with your barking dog and frustrated kids just to get your pictures TAKEN!  It’s gotten to be a family tradition for a lot of people to come down every year, we’d photograph the entire family, just the children and or course Sparky, Jake or whatever their four legged family member was called.
As you may have guessed by now…yes I’m an animal lover!  LOL   Animals brighten every home they are brought into and the love, affection and trust they give you is a wonderful thing.  I’ve always said “Pets are People Too!” and I mean it.  Your animal friend is a huge part of your family, and that’s why I make sure I always encourage every client to include their four legged friend as part of the family photographs……because he or she IS a part of your family!
PS
Special thanks once again to Marlene of Marlene’s Designer Portraits for her help during the event.  She was working away steadily away like one of Santa’s Elves on the computer – showing everyone their images, taking orders, doing the computer work and printing while I was busy barking, meowing, growling, whining, etc to get the animals attention,  lying on the floor to get the proper angle,  getting my lenses licked by loveable dogs….well, you get the idea!   Your help made it run smoothly once again!

Here’s a quick sampling of some of the animal portraits we did this Christmas Season at Barks N’ Bubbles…..

Marlene Fast - We did have so much fun! And the families of these pets will cherish these portraits forever! Great job Bruce and you just might twist my arm again next year to be one of Santa’s elves! 🙂

Holiday Pet Portraits

Greetings from the North Pole….it’s that time of year again!

Every year Impact Photographic Design and Barks N’ Bubbles Pet Spa (formerly Style N’ Paws Pet Spa) team up and offer Holiday Pet Portraits with me (Santa!) As well, for our Jewish Furry Friends, they also offer Hanukkah portraits. So, bring your dog, cat, hamster, lizard, snake (non-poisonous only please – I cannot afford to be laid up at this time of year) or other furry/feathery friend down for a great time and some amazing portraits! Bring the kids (I mean the human ones) as well – make it a family portrait! HO, HO, HO!

Master Photographer Bruce Allen Hendricks MPA, F.Ph, CPP (The ONLY Winnipeg photographer Accredited  in Animal Portraits by the Professional Photographers of Canada (PPOC) always makes both me and all my four legged little buddies look our jolly best – and it’s so much fun there as well! He’s know for his animal portraits Canada wide….so while there are other places that I offer to have pet portraits with me at this time of year (for political reasons I have to – you know how it is), I always enjoy working with Bruce from Impact Photographic Design at Barks N’s Bubbles the most and always get the best photographs by him every single year!

As usual, all booking are made by appointment, so you don’t have to stand around for hours in line waiting for your turn as your kids get bored and tired.    5×7 or smaller portraits will be printed and delivered to you WHILE YOU WAIT!  Larger photographs as well as Portrait Greeting Cards will be ready for you to pick up in 7 days, so plenty of options are available!

Available dates for Appointments: Sunday December 5th Sunday December 12th & Sunday December 19th.  So pick up the phone and make your appointment today!
